One of the great things about using a linux variant (no, android does not fuckin count) is that you van choose how you update.
Don't want to update? Don't need to. Nobody is forcing it.
Want to update once every couple months? Go for it.
Want to install a new package the moment an update os pushed to the repositories? Be my fucking guest.
Nobody besides apple/macos (at least when I used it years ago) seems to get that people don't hate updates, they hate their shit updating whenever it fucking wants to. But even they don't understand that it's possible to run updates in the background.
Hell, even android, a linux-based operating system can't grasp the idea of applying updates to packages in the background. If they are just trying to emulate windows by making a device useless for am'n extended period of time, they're just fucking moronic. If they're worried about people not restarting their phone to apply patches to system components, then they should just add a persistent notification saying 'Please restart your phone to apply updates.'
Companies have observed that people actively avoid updates and base decisions like dropping support for relatively new devices based off that. If they wanted to make updates a shit experience so they'd have an excuse to drop support, good on them for actually planning something for the long term. But honestly, the fear and dread generated around updates is just the result of everybody being too fucking lazy to do anything about it.
During a meeting the Windows Laptop of a college was frozen again, so he forced it off.
Then Windows had to do 1/4h update and he had to reboot again :D :D
