My friend found reishi (霊芝) growing on a wild peach tree behind his house. I went to visit yesterday and harvested this mushroom. It's tough to say exactly what species it is without genetic testing (there is lots of taxonomic confusion surrounding the Ganoderma species complex). However, it is likely to be Ganoderma lucidum.
I'll brew tea from the mushroom in the picture and will return to the harvest location to take a tissue sample so that we can bring this ecotype into cultivation.
