Is Hubzilla still being developed? If I look at
https://framagit.org/hubzilla/core
I see that the last update was 9 months ago.
When can I expect to see the next release?

Check the 'dev' branch. "Last update 4 hours ago."
There seems to be quite a lot going on, but the next release will be a rather major one (5.0) so I think the devs focus on that now. 5.0 is in RC now, so hopefully it will not be too long before it's here.

Don't blame me, I just followed the official link on the frontpage of
https://hubzilla.org
. So, what then is the more official page/URL?

You are on the correct page, you need to change the repository view to dev branch, as I said above ...

OK, now I understand. Forgive my ignorance.
I am a member of a 300+ social group, and I will try to implement Hubzilla for better communication. So far not much succes because many are using the other commercial product. But I will keep on trying. Hopefully the coming V5.0 will be better accepted :). I run my own server.

Hubzilla is best when you make use of shared storage and more complex communication incuding webDAV calendars. There are other distributed social software with more users with focus on fast one-stream messaging. Depends on how people think about the tools.

The link goes to stable branch, which is default in all software development. That is now near End Of Life. Important to say, the stable branch 4.6 will be no more compatible with new 5.0 (channel cloning and other stuff you can read somewhere advertised) so invite users now to 4.6 and change them things after a while to different in some parts, may be not the best experience. Starting with 5.0RC now means that channel cloning to most sites still using stable will not work. Maybe better wait for 5.0 stable and when the majority of network upgrades to Zot6 protocol.
