Mike Macgirvin When I see that some tags, posts, channels only clutter my feed, then I want to mute it somehow; for my feed only.
"For your feed only" is where we focus our efforts because in my opinion this is the only ethical form of censorship. As soon as somebody else is making decisions about what you want to see, there are issues because they are not you and have their own biases.
Use Superblock ("Block Completely") if you want them to vanish. Connection filters if the person normally posts some interesting things and you can come up with a rule for distinguishing either the useful stuff or the stuff you don't want. You can also use this to filter out languages you can't read. N-S-F-W to hide topics you don't really want to participate in, for instance US politics or licensing debates - but still allow you to view and participate in these conversations if you want. Affinity tool (aka "Friend Zoom") if you want to see your closest friends first and deal with everybody else later (or perhaps never). Detailed permissions (or Ignore) if you want them to be able to follow you only and don't really want to see anything that they have to say.
I've used all of these in different circumstances.
In Zap there are a number of additional options like "only import posts from strangers if they mention me" and "don't show me this person's photos if I'm on a work computer".
I am working on providing some better tools for conveying your intentions and blocking actions to your friends and/or the site admin; but there is no guarantee either will have the same values and belief system as you and they might not perform the same action themselves.
